a very late new year post

Happy new year to all! :)

I’m sorry that the obligatory holiday post had been missing from this blog. If you were wondering what the heck happened to me all this time, maybe these pics will clear things up:

No, I did not make a sudden career shift into being a mechanic. We recently acquired a scooter and I’m currently learning how to do all the dirty work myself. It’s a second hand Honda Dio 2 City Movement. His name is “Charlie”, after Charlie Chaplin (yes, I’m talking about the scooter). He’ll soon have a bike brother by the name of “Buster” (after Buster Keaton). Kim, a great guy I met at the MCP forum, helped me install a new fuel tank for Charlie because the old one was leaking from rust.

I’m cleaning it up in preparation for a “Pimp My Ride” series of upgrades. This may include:

  • repainting the whole body (metallic ocean blue/silver)
  • fitting in a shiny metal floor board (aluminum)
  • adding a Givi box with reflectors and cushion
  • seat upholstery
  • upgrading to a disk brake
  • hmmm… whatever else I come up with

I’ll post some pics as I go along. Right now I’ve just added new side mirrors and bought a motorcycle cover for storage. Celine and I have ordered helmets from the Spyder’s Solaris kiosk at SM Mega Mall, but that may take time so we might buy a temporary helmet. I’ve also been looking for gloves, but darn it, the only ones available are limited and they’re too big for my hands. Gloves are important because in case one falls down, the initial reaction is to use the hands as leverage. No gloves = a very bloody palm. If you know where I can find some that’s near QC or Marikina, please tell me right away.

BTW, my scooter seems to have been used before for drag races. This is evident from the already pimped out insides (racing CDI and such) and a painted frame. Kim and I concluded that the old owner must have used it for races, crashed it (parts of the frame have been welded), then sold it to buy a new one. So I’m pretty sure this isn’t a stock 50cc Honda Dio. At the very least, 70cc or even 90cc, which means it can probably reach and exceed highway speeds easily. Don’t worry though, because I have no death wish whatsoever, and as I told Teanuts, will keep my speed at around a crawling 30kph, cursing drivers following me be damned.

Now, if I could only get that speedometer to work…
