having fun, dyan-dyan lang

25 05 2009

Went to a nearby mall/arcade to hunt in a bargain bookstore. Got myself a fascinating hardcover on ancient African kingdoms full of beautiful illustrations. It’s like watching National Geographic.

Plus, food tripping on sinful chicharong bituka from a stall. Since I’m underweight, I’ll eat as much as I want. Glorious. :D

Baked Scallops a la Scout?

7 10 2008

Looks like the real thing, doesn’t it?

This is a picture of the spicy baked scallops I made for Celine the day before her birthday. It’s my first time cooking this made-up recipe, and I thought it would be a disaster, but she really loved it. So much so that she blogged about it: Celine’s Beeswax.

It’s nice to be appreciated.

My first attempt at making sushi, following YouTube videos. This one is spicy tuna rolls. Celine also made crab stick rolls. Not bad, not bad. :D Ayusin ko pa ulit next time.

Easy Vegetarian Side Dish Recipes

21 12 2007

For those who want to eat a little healthier. ;)

Garlic Mushrooms

Ingredients: (Cost: < P50)
1 can button mushrooms (champignons), chopped
1 tsp garlic, chopped
1/4 cup butter or margarine
pinch of salt
pinch of pepper

Saute (gisa) garlic in butter. Wait until slightly golden brown. Add mushrooms. Cook for 5 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve while hot.

Corn and Carrots

Ingredients: (Cost: < P60)
1 can plain corn kernels
1/4 kilo carrots (or 2 pcs small), cubed 1/4″
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup water
pinch of salt
pinch of pepper

The carrots must be chopped until they are about the same size as the corn kernels. Saute corn in butter. Add carrots. Mix. Add water to soften the veggies. Let it boil until the water almost completely evaporates. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve while hot.

Personally, I just use Dari Creme margarine instead of butter because its cheap, has no cholesterol, and I don’t need to add salt. Anyway, try these out for yourselves. :)

The new white elephant

refrigerator

This what I really wanted to write about before I got side-tracked. Last Friday, Celine and I bought a new ref for the house, because we’ve been without one for several months. The best thing about it is that it was on sale at Makro. It used to be 20K but I got it for just 12.3K! General Electric, 10 cu. ft, 2-door ref. I love Makro now. :)

That was sort of my Xmas gift for everyone, and also so that no one will bother to ask me for anything later. I have an excuse! No more money to spare, I already bought a big machine! :D I’m also looking forward to buying some executive office chairs there, ‘coz there’s some good ones at 2K and 1.5K (my back needs pampering or it will revolt). Plus they sell 2kg mozzarella cheese blocks for only P600 – that’s uber cheap. Pizza-til-you-drop this Christmas!

Now if only I could get that office ID for a permanent membership card… ;)

my birthday, food delivery, and other stuff

18 10 2007

my phone is dead… or nearly so. it’s been spontaneously restarting on me for about a week now, and sometimes i can’t use it for days. so friends, if i don’t text back, please don’t hate me. :(

maybe it just needs a battery replacement. it’s weird for it to die all of a sudden when it has survived falling countless times and being run over by cars (see details here). hay, my RAZR. i miss it already.

the Nth birthday

thanks to all the people who remembered and sent their greetings, some of whom were quite a surprise. :)

masaya ang birthday ko! i got new laptop cooler pad c/o Celine. now Mr Spock (my laptop) won’t complain as much when I work almost 24/7. :D she also gave me flowers which my sister saw when she went to the house. are we obvious or what? hehehe.

Red Ribbon vs Goldilocks

i was planning to call Red Ribbon to for food delivery but they don’t seem to like customers that much. I called the Cubao branch but they said they don’t deliver, and so referred me to the Libis branch, who’s line was perpetually busy. So I tried to dial their delivery hotline, but even then a recording told they have a new hotline which I should call, instead of connecting me there automatically. That new hotline is probably manned by ghosts. Nobody answered.

That was it. I called Goldilocks instead and got an agent instantly on the line. Zero wait time. Spent 1K on marble cake, pansit palabok and lumpiang sariwa. See, that’s the way to do business. Treat your customers right, damn it! :P

veggie food trip: a birthday experiment

7 10 2007

It’s a little late posting this, but I’d really like to share it with you guys. Celine and I dined in on her birthday last September 25. We cooked rigatoni and pizza for dinner. Half the pizza had mozzarella, parmesan and fresh basil. The other half had additional button mushrooms, green bell peppers, onions, and small eggplant slices. It’s cool that her mom used to do catering, because they have a HUGE oven that can easily fit four people inside. Look at our luscious creations. ;)

my milkshake boo-boo

25 06 2007

when i was a high school freshman, i was quite in love in the McDonald’s milkshake. chocolate, of course.

i’d save my lunch money and buy some every afternoon, or whenever i can. i never really understood why they pulled it out from the menu all of a sudden. and i never saw it again, until it resurfaced about 2 years ago. like before, i couldn’t resist it. i was in chocolatey heaven again.

oreo milkshakethis afternoon after reading my sister-in-law’s blog, i thought i’d try making homemade milkshakes myself. the ingredients are simple:

  • 2 cups ice cream (preferably vanilla)
  • 1 cup evaporated filled milk (do NOT buy Nestle!)
  • 6 chocolate cookie sandwiches (i used cream-o)
  • 2 teaspoons chocolate syrup (hershey’s?)

you simply break the cookies apart, as finely as you please, then mix everything together in a bowl or blender. well, i had to skip the choco syrup as we didn’t have one and i’m too cheap to buy to it if i need only 2 friggin’ teaspoonfuls. and anyway, i might die of chocolate overdose, and then celine will really kill me.

hey, it wasn’t bad at all! taste-wise, it’s kinda hard to go wrong with ice cream. the crappy thing is that when i put the milk in the blender, it started to leak at the base. milk ran all over the floor. good thing my cat came to my rescue and drank some. still, it was very messy. and my little sister was with me watching tv. i hate making boo-boos like that when she’s around. she gives me this weird look that says, “what is it this time?”

huh. anyway… so there. homemade milkshakes are cheap and yummy, but make sure to check everything so you won’t make as much mess as i did. and if you do make some, tell me how it went and your variation of the recipe. happy eating! ^_^
